Shawn focuses his practice on advising small businesses, small business owners and start-ups. Shawn frequently assists clients with Asset Purchase and Sale Agreements, independent contractor and employment issues, stock purchases and sales, non-competition issues and investment decisions. Shawn started his career with a unique group at Arthur Andersen that helped a small number of businesses and their owners with all their tax, business planning/structuring, investment and estate planning needs.
In addition to purely legal work, Shawn advises numerous small businesses and foundations on a variety of financial and strategic issues from fund raising to strategic business planning. Shawn's legal and accounting backgrounds are fortified in this field by his Securities and Exchange Commission Series 7, 34, 65 and Colorado Insurance licenses.
Shawn has also been fortunate enough to contribute to several publications such as Hynes and Loewenstein, Agency, Partnership and the LLC, Sherman Rau and Peppet; Alternative Dispute Resolution, and Pritchett, Schmit Doerpinghaus, and Athearn; Risk Management and Insurance.
Outside of his work Shawn enjoys cycling and telemarking with his wife Lee and his son Graham. Shawn lectures at CU Law School's Entrepreneurial Law Clinic, founded the Stigler/Nelson Alpine Endeavors Scholarship, and is a Founding Board Member of the Able Kids Foundation. S+W, Ltd. also became a title sponsor for the University of Colorado Cycling Team in 2008 and currently sponsors the Boulder Velo Racing Masters cycling team.
